Ms. Blum is a Certified Family Law Specialist who obtained
her Certificate of Specialization from the California Board
of Legal Specialization in May 2003.
Born in New York City, she attended Cornell University
where she received a Bachelor of Science in 1987 in
Hotel Administration. After exploring several possibilities
in the hospitality industry, Ms. Blum decided to pursue an
area of interest that had always intrigued her: law. She
soon enrolled at the University of Southern California Law
Center where she earned a juris doctor in 1994.
Family law piqued Ms. Blum’s interest as she began to consider which type of practice would
most suit her interests. She found that helping those who faced the turmoil, uncertainty and
challenges a divorce or custody situation could present fit perfectly into what most
fascinated her about her profession. Though her first preference is always to mediate
spousal and custody disputes, Ms. Blum can also be a fierce opponent in a court of law.
Ms. Blum has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer and, prior to that, a
Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Star by Los Angeles Magazine. She has also
been featured in publications such as iparenting.com, Law Review, Variety,
CBSMarketWatch.com, People Magazine, US Weekly and the Los Angeles Daily Journal.
With multiple appearances on such shows as "Entertainment Tonight," "Celebrity Justice,"
"Inside Edition," "The Insider," WCKG-FM Radio, KNX-AM Radio, KZLA Radio, and KOST
Radio, Ms. Blum also speaks before groups and organizations on various aspects of family
law.
Ms. Blum has taken a keen interest in writing about the many complex facets of her area of
expertise and in mid-November 2000 her first and timeless book, Divorce and Finances:
Know Your Rights Clearly and Quickly, was published by Dorling Kindersley Publishers.
The book, which serves as a guide for anyone going through a divorce, carefully addresses
all matters that should be considered, and skillfully handled, as they relate to the financial
aspects of a divorcee’s future. “Most people going through a divorce overlook many
financial details that later come back to haunt them,” Ms. Blum explains. “I’ve taken
particular interest in helping people circumvent long-term disappointments and to also help
them understand their most basic rights as they move through the divorce process.” The
72-page book is a quick and easy read and clearly defines what someone should know
before anyone begins to negotiate his or her marital settlement agreement.
Ms. Blum, who plans to pen other books on the subject of family law, writes for various legal
trade journals and publications. An article entitled “Creating Fair and Effective Prenups,”
for California Lawyer’s Expert Advice column, bears Ms. Blum’s byline.
The Harriet Buhai Foundation has honored Ms. Blum for her pro bono work on their behalf.
Other causes, such as those that help individuals in need when going through the divorce
process, are also of great interest to Ms. Blum.
Her philosophy in dealing with her clients is to bring sensitivity and understanding to what
they are going through and to always treat every case on a highly individualized basis. “I
always keep in mind what it is my clients are facing,” she says. “That means in addition to
good counsel, patience and understanding are a must.”
Ms. Blum has practiced family law since 1996. She started her family law career at the
Westside divorce firm of Nachshin & Weston, where she was ultimately named a partner in
2003. In January 2005, she founded the family law practice at Reuben Raucher & Blum.
Ms. Blum is excited at the prospect of being able to offer her clients the high quality of legal
representation that Reuben Raucher & Blum affords and now combines her own expertise
with that of other seasoned civil trial and appellate lawyers.
Ms. Blum enjoys speaking to groups and organizations about the many complex areas of
family law, particularly on custody issues. She currently serves as a member of both the Los
Angeles and the Beverly Hills Bar Associations. Ms. Blum has served as Judge Pro Tem for
the Los Angeles Superior Court, Central District.
